چکیده
This study examined the effect of 3-nitrooxypropanol (3-NOP), an investigational substance, on enteric methane emission, milk production, and composition in Holstein dairy cows. Following a 3-wk covariate period, 48 multi- primiparous cows averaging (± standard deviation) 118 ± 28 d milk, 43.4 8 kg/d yield, 594 57 kg body weight were blocked based days emission randomly assigned to 1 2 treatment groups: (1) control, no 3-NOP, (2) 3-NOP applied at 60 mg/kg feed dry matter. Inclusion was through total mixed ration fed for 15 consecutive weeks. Cows housed freestall barn equipped with Calan Broadbent Feeding System (American Inc., Northwood, NH) monitoring individual matter intake ad libitum once daily. Enteric gaseous emissions (methane, carbon dioxide, hydrogen) measured using 3 GreenFeed (C-Lock Rapid City, SD) units. Dry intake, cow weight, change not affected by 3-NOP. Compared control group, decreased daily intensity 26, 27, 29%, respectively. dioxide affected, hydrogen increased 6-fold Administration had energy-corrected yields efficiency, fat urea nitrogen concentrations, yield but other effects components. Milk production and composition, ovarian function, and prostaglandin secretion of dairy cows fed omega-3 fats.
Four multiparous Holstein cows were used in a 4 x 4 Latin square experiment to study the effects of fat sources rich in omega-3 fatty acids on milk production and composition, follicular development, and prostaglandin secretion. All cows were fed a total mixed diet containing 60% grass silage and 40% concentrate. The four treatments were concentrates based either on Megalac, formaldehyde-treate...

متن کاملDigestion, milk production, milk composition, and blood composition of dairy cows fed formaldehyde treated flaxseed or sunflower seed.
Forty midlactation Holstein cows averaging 635 kg of body weight (SE = 8) were allotted at wk 25 of lactation to ten groups of four cows blocked for similar calving dates to determine the effects of formaldehyde treatment of flaxseed and sunflower seed on fatty acid composition of blood and milk, milk yield, feed intake, and apparent digestibility. Cows were fed a total mixed diet based on gras...
متن کاملEffects of nicotinamide on milk composition and production in dairy cows fed supplemental fat.
Thirty-two cows, averaging 112 DIM, were assigned to four dietary treatments: 1) control, 2) Ca salts of fatty acids, 3) nicotinamide, and 4) Ca salts of fatty acids blended with nicotinamide during manufacture. Preliminary studies showed that nicotinamide survives blending with Ca salts of fatty acids during manufacture and that a blended mixture of nicotinamide and Ca salts of fatty acids gav...
متن کاملCorrection for Hristov et al., An inhibitor persistently decreased enteric methane emission from dairy cows with no negative effect on milk production.
A quarter of all anthropogenic methane emissions in the United States are from enteric fermentation, primarily from ruminant livestock. This study was undertaken to test the effect of a methane inhibitor, 3-nitrooxypropanol (3NOP), on enteric methane emission in lactating Holstein cows. An experiment was conducted using 48 cows in a randomized block design with a 2-wk covariate period and a 12-...
